Having a hard time figuring out what to put in your kids lunch box? You want their lunch to be vegan, healthy, budget friendly AND kid friendly, right? If so, please check out my weekly lunch box series, both here on my blog and on my YouTube Channel to find some amazingly delicious lunch ideas that come together in minutes!

Before I tell you what is in this week’s lunch box, let’s talk about the BEST budget friendly kids lunch box on the market: the Yumbox!

The Best Budget Friendly Lunch Box

The Yumbox has loads of benefits that include ALL the following:

  • Leakproof
  • Budget friendly
  • Lightweight
  • Fun

It is leakproof, meaning you don’t have to worry about your child’s lunch bag, backpack or books becoming destroyed. It is the BEST price I have found on the market for the longevity it provides. It is lightweight compared to some of the steel lunch boxes marketed towards kids and BEST OF ALL, it is super colorful and fun!

What Should You Put in a Vegan Kids School Lunch Box?

  • Protein
  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Grains

I like to use this portion plate as a helpful guide for making healthy lunches. It is divided into four sections: protein, grains, fruits, and vegetables, making it easy to ensure your child has a healthy diet. You can find it on Amazon!

So what’s inside this lunch box?

  • Protein: hazelnut spread. hemp seeds & peas
  • Vegetables: peas & carrots
  • Fruits: strawberries & grapes
  • Grains: bread & chips

I made my chocolate hazelnut spread this week as part of my meal prep for the week. If you want to see everything I meal prepped this week, check out my meal prep video here on YouTube. I used this delicious spread as the protein of the sandwich and sprinkled some hemp seeds to add a little bit more protein.

Nut free? No problem!

Now, let’s talk about vegetables. I added some peas (which also have a lot of protein) and some carrots. I suggest adding vegetables that you know your kids like, that way they will get eaten! The same goes for fruits!

I used a white bread for this week’s sandwich, but I highly suggest using a whole grain bread for kids lunches, as it offers loads of benefits.

Snacks for a Vegan Kids School Lunch Box?

I highly suggest refraining from adding too many pre-packaged snacks to your child’s lunch, even if they claim to be healthy. The focus should be on protein, vegetables, fruits and healthy grains. You want your child to eat as many whole foods as possible. That being said, it is always nice to add a bit of chocolate here and there, especially on Valentine’s day!
